Air France is actively involved in controlling its emissions. Our actions focus as much on flight procedures, ground activities, and participation in research programmes as on the actual choice of our aircraft.
Renewing our fleet is a vital method for improving energy efficiency. The problem is that manufacturers need time to bring new technologies on stream while ensuring the same degree of safety. By deciding to work on renewing its fleet, Air France not only makes fuel savings but has also reduced the amount of CO2 produced.
Since 1999, Air France has undertaken a vast cross-functional action plan mobilizing all of the Company’s entities in an effort to reduce fuel consumption.
Wherever possible, SNCF (the French railway operator) and Air France have created synergies between air and rail transport. For example: Paris-Charles De Gaulle-Brussels.
Air France has been involved in several successive research programmes dedicated to improving air quality. For example, we carried measuring equipment aboard one of our aircraft from 2001 to 2005.
