Air France’s environmental management is embodied in a policy, organization and approach dedicated to building environmental challenges into the company’s global strategy.

Corporate policy

Since 1995, when the first action plan for the environment became an integral part of Air France’s strategy, we have worked resolutely towards our goal of limiting the environmental impact of our activities.
The main direct environmental impact of our activities comes from the emissions and noise generated by our aircraft and, to a lesser degree, liquid, gaseous, and solid waste, generated by ground operations.

Dedicated organization

Air France has a staff of over 63,000. To ensure that decisions are taken at the most appropriate level so as to be as consistent as possible, we have introduced a decentralized organization. This networked organization can interact with each department or entity in the Company.

Implementation-centric approach

While policy decides on goals, the organization carries out directions from Central Management, which are then implemented in the field. Action plans and a monitoring committee ensure continuous improvement.

Air France has decided to extend ISO 14001 certification, currently in place at the Aircraft Maintenance Division, to all activities in France within the framework of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
The Airline had obtained the certification in summer 2008.

This system, based on optimal control of all relevant environmental aspects, on proactive monitoring of requirements, on continuous improvement of environmental impacts, structures action as a way of achieving the targets set. It acknowledges the Group’s commitment to proactive environmental protection and the way it manages industry related environmental risks
